Seasonal Tips

Protect Your Investment

Spring / fall

If you have a multi-zone system, be sure to set all units to the same mode: either heating or cooling. The system won’t function properly if some units are set to cooling mode and some are set to heating mode.

Utilize the dehumidify feature (dry mode) if room temperature is comfortable and you don’t want the unit in heating or cooling mode. This will dehumidify and continue to filter the air so the room stays fresh. The dry mode setting icon looks like a raindrop.

Summer

It is best to keep the unit running in cooling mode (snowflake icon) instead of turning it on and off. Turning the unit on and off repeatedly can allow condensation to get trapped inside of the indoor unit and can lead to mold buildup if the unit stays closed with the moisture inside.
If the room feels too cold, simply turn the temperature up – even to 78 or 80 degrees – and adjust the temperature based on how you feel, instead of the number.
If you do want to turn the unit off and it’s in cooling mode, the best thing to do is turn on the fan mode and let it run for 15 minutes before you turn it off. This allows the condensation to be released, preventing possible mold build up.

Winter

For optimal functionality, it is best to keep the system running in heating mode (sun icon) instead of turning it off and on. The system is more efficient when the units can modulate to maintain temperature as they are designed to do. Adjusting the set temperature based on your personal feel and comfort will bring better results than concentrating on the temperature number.
Be sure to keep the outdoor unit free and clear of snow build up. If the outdoor condenser is blocked with snow, it cannot function properly and the performance of the system will suffer.
